In September 2005, Oral Surgery Associates became the third oral surgery practice in Colorado to received the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Effective 2008, after a surprise site visit, OSA continues to attain the high expectations and stardards of JCAHO and maintained our accreditation. As of 2008, OSA continues to be the first and only Oral Surgery office in Colorado Springs to receive this National Quality Approval.
To receive this recognition, OSA must meet 116 Joint Commission standards, verified during an on-site evaluation visit. These standards focused on the quality of OSA’s practice in areas of:
- Practice ethics
- Provision of care, treatment and services
- Medication management
- Prevention & control of infections
- Improving practice performance
- Practice leadership
- Environment of care management
- Human resources management
- Information management
- Implementation of National Patient Safety Goals
The Joint Commission is the nation’s leading evaluator of patient safety and health care quality in organizations, having more than 50 years of experience in promoting patient safety and high quality care for individuals.
Dr. Hildebrandt and Team OSA emphasized that receiving this recognition was only the first step in an on-going process of continuous improvement verified by periodic on-site evaluations by the Joint Commission.
